Let’s create

Sorry I’ve taken a little hiatus…I’ve been busy playing with the kids, organizing my “sewing corner”, adding to my fabric collection, printing off a ridiculous amount of sewing tutorials, watching the Goonies with my hub, and trying to stay on top of cleaning (ha). Anyway an update on our little Miss. Is in order…

Miss NaNa (that’s what Aiden has chosen to call her) pronounced (neigh neigh) like a horse sound Last Tuesday we went in for a weight check…and I could hardly believe my eyes when she shook the scales at 9.9lbs!!! 9oz in a week!! Incredible  What a huge answer to our prayers as well as so many others! We’re so incredibly thankful to everyone who has and is still joining us in prayer. Today we’re going back for another weigh in and I’m hoping and pretty certain that she has yet again gained an incredible amount of weight. Though she still has chicken legs…they’re getting quite thunderous 😉

My husband bought me a sewing machine for Valentine’s Day and also gave me an allowance to get things up and running . I received my machine yesterday and LOVE it! It’s a Singer 7256..I did a little research and figured it’s a simple to use machine with features like auto threading, auto stitch length and width, auto thread tension, and it has 70 stitches. I purchased mine on Amazon .com and got it for $150 and free shipping .I’ve been making trips to Joann Fabrics and found an awesome deal on flannel which I’m making burp cloths, wash cloths for a dear friend and then two rag quilts for my little ones. Fabric.com has an amazing section of $1.95 fabric which of course I scooped up some nice varieties of fabrics just for a stash…you can’t beat the price!

Last night in my little sewing corner (aka the dark corner of our laundry room closet…haha) I sewed washcloths and burp cloths. The washcloths are super simple just cut out 2 pieces of 9×9 flannel and pin around to hold fabric in place making sure fabric is touching right sides in. And sew around leaving an opening to turn right side out then sew around the complete square making sure you sew up the opening! Super simple and we use these all the time with the kids and they’ve held up MUCH better than the store bought rags 😉

If you’re looking for a place to find awesome sewing tutorials check out….

http://smashedpeasandcarrots.blogspot.com     she also has some fun sewing projects…I have so many projects for the little one and I’ve found most of them from her site!! Those are just my two favs at the moment! Really, check them out. They’ll inspire you to create!

Hope your days are filled with lots of love and laughter. Check out todays devotional over at  http://devotions.proverbs31.org Todays verse is..

“For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” Zephaniah 3:17

These past few days I have been blown away by family, friends, and complete strangers….all this kindness that has been flooding in around me. God is so, so good! He knows exactly what this girl has needed this past week to encourage me and help me keep my head held high.  Thankful for those that held a door, pushed an empty cart back to the cart coral, made sure the elevator didn’t squeeze Aiden in his stroller, and all those who have been praying for Naomi and for our family during this time of waiting and seeing. Seriously, theses people have no idea what an impact they have made throughout this week and I’m so thankful for our God who put them in my path!

Naomi and I made our trip to the GI Dr. yesterday. After 15 minutes of interrogating me about home life, feedings, pooping , and vomiting…we got down to business. he told us that Naomi’s anatomy is normal (praise the Lord!) Also, that she had no signs of pyloric stenosis both by u/s and physical exam (yay!) She’s just not gaining an adequate amount of weight (sigh) No name to this…no drug to make it better, no surgery to fix it…it just is what it is. So we’re off to doing weekly weight checks…as long as she’s gaining an average of a half an oz to an ounce a day and keeps it on we’re on the right track 😀 If she doesn’t then she will  get tube feedings. So yesterday was encouraging, yet, a little discouraging…I know her trend…she does great for a few weeks and the starts shedding the weight. Please continue praying for her and our family…it’s so hard not to have a name to put to what’s going on in her tiny body. It’s so easy to let my mind wander to different diseases and illnesses….so please pray for my sanity 😉 thank you so much for caring for us and loving on us through your prayers..please know that we are praying for you as well and that we love you so much!

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  Colossians 3:12

Update

Standard

As we suspected little Naomi only weighs in at 8.9lbs..gaining a grand total of 3oz in 1.5months. She did however, grown 2 inches and is hitting her milestones which is fantastic! I’m no longer nursing which is a bummer, but in a way it has its perks…no more pumping…no more diet (egg and dairy free)…no more Aiden taking advantage of mommy while shes nursing 🙂 We’re now on a special formula and the Dr. gave me a special way of mixing it so Naomi gets more calories each time and it’s also a lot thicker..that way she’s not as likely to spit up as much. Her medication for reflux has also been changed and I’m so eager to pick it up this morning! We have been referred to a GI who specializes in peds and hopefully we’ll be able to get in soon with him!

Yesterday was a little discouraging only because I had hoped for more weight gain, but there is a plan in place and I am going to take her in every few weeks for weight checks..that way we know for sure she’s gaining until her 6 month appt. Please continue to pray for her as we transition her over to formula and the new medicine. Also please pray that we get in with the GI quickly so we can rule out any abnormalities that may be present.

Safe in His arms

Today is the day I have been anxiously awaiting…Naomi’s 4 month check up! Sweet, little Naomi has struggled gaining weight since she was 3 weeks old up until that point she was thriving…At 4 weeks she was back down to her birth weight and was sent to Riley and diagnosed with severe reflux. She was given medicine and started to rebound! At her 2 month check up she had again lost weight from her weekly weigh-ins. The weekbefore Thanksgiving she was diagnosed with a milk and egg protein allergy. After modifying my diet she gained hald a lb in a week! And a pound and a half by the second week! These past few weeks I’ve noticed a lot more projectile vomiting and checked in to see if her reflux medicine could be increased and due to her low weight they were unable to increase the dosage 😦 These past few days have been hard as I watch my already small 4month old girl continue to get smaller..it seems as though by the hour. Please join us in prayer today as we go to the Dr. for answers and wisdom. We want our little one to feel comfortable and we want her to gain at a normal pace.

As I rocked our sweet little girl to sleep last night I sang

You will be safe in His arms
You will be safe in His arms
‘Cause the hands that hold the world are holding your heart
This is the promise He made
He will be with You always
When everything is falling apart
You will be safe in His arms

Knowing that our God holds all of us, even our tiny little one, made all the hurts in my heart feel so much better last night.

Activities for the busy toddler

Standard

beads on pipe cleaners…keeps Aiden entertained for about 30 min…which is perfect while nursing Ms. Naomi…but I have to watch him VERY closely with the beads..otherwise they’ll end up in all his orifices 🙂

Materials needed:

Pipe cleaners (dollar tree…love that place)

Beads

Plastic bags (to keep it all together when finished)

Image

Pushing Pom poms

Aiden loves this! It keeps him occupied for the longest time 🙂 Not only does he love this but we can count together as he pushes them but he can also name the different colors.

Materials:

Plastic container–snip a hole or two into the removable lid

Pom poms

Image

Aiden loves counting and placing his rocks on these foam numbers. I numbered 1-10 and made all odd numbers one color and evens a different so when he’s old enough he can start to differentiate odds and even numbers.

Materials needed:

Foam rectangles (dollar tree)

Any type of object to place on top of the circles (Aiden just really likes rocks 🙂

Image

Aiden doesn’t quite get the hang of buttoning the shapes onto the ribbon yet, but I’m sure in the future he will master this activity 🙂

Materials needed:

Ribbon

Felt shapes- cut a slit so they can slide on to ribbon and over button

2 buttons-sew onto ribbon

Needle & thread

Image

Color and Number wheel

Clothes pins

Permanent marker

Colored markers

Star stickers

Laminating sheets

Compass

Scissors

Ruler

Cardboard

Start by using compass to draw a circle (desired size) on to the cardboard. (I cut two out at the same time to save time)

Use ruler and permanent marker to draw desired amount of ‘pie pieces” and the rest is pretty self explanitory. Aiden thinks these are really cool, but I had to give him a lesson on how to pinch open the clothes pin.

Last but certainly not least…every one needs a Rody! My sis-in-law bought Aiden one of these for Christmas and it really wears him out…and mommy gets a good exercise too while chasing him around the house 🙂

You never let go.

Standard

Last night as Naomi fought sleep she clung to me…and it reminded me of the David Crowder song “You never let go” No matter how many times I rocked my tiny baby back to sleep she somehow who continue grasping onto my sweatshirt and as soon as I tried to lay her in her crib she would jolt back awake as soon as her hand was torn from me. What a sweet reminder of how God does the same thing for us. No matter how we act during the day…even with stinky attitudes…He never lets go. No matter what He never lets us go.

When clouds veil the sun and disaster comes
Oh my soul, oh my soul
When waters rise and hope takes flight
Oh my soul, oh my soul, oh my soul
Ever faithful, ever true
You, I know, You never let go
You never let go, You never let go
You never let go
You never let go, You never let go
You never let go
When clouds brought rain and disaster came
Oh my soul, oh my soul
When waters rose and hope had flown
Oh my soul, oh my soul, oh my soul
Ever faithful, ever true
You, I know, You never let go
You never let go, You never let go
You never let go
You never let go, You never let go
You never let go
Oh, my soul overflows
Oh what love, oh what love
Oh, my soul fills with hope
Perfect love that never lets go
You never let go, You never let go
You never let go
You never let go, You never let go
You never let go
You never let go, You never let go
You never let go
Oh what love, oh what love
Oh what love
Oh what love, oh what love
Oh what love
In joy and pain, in sun and rain
You’re the same, oh, You never let go
In joy and pain, in sun and rain
You’re the same, oh, You never let go
In joy and pain, in sun and rain
You’re the same, oh, You never let go
Never let go, You never let go

Thanking our faithful Father today for loving me and caring enough to send His only son to die on the cross so that one day I will be able to spend eternity with the One who has held me through it all.

In everything give thanks

God has been dealing with me lately on being thankful for the good things and the bad. So many times I choose to only be thankful when things are running smoothly and when chaos arrupts my thankfulness flies out the window. There are so many things to be thankful for!

My weekend was full of cleaning because Saturday night my dental assisting girls came over for tacos and dessert along with kids and husbands. It’s so great to get together with friends and just be able to talk and laugh…and having the men present allowed them to stand up for themselves 🙂 For instance…we discussed why men would rather have holes in the tips of socks instead of just cutting their toenails…I’ll never understand that one! Or why they pretend to listen to you…and when you follow-up with a question they have no idea what you’ve been rambling on about for the past ten minutes 🙂 Anyway, we had a wonderful time and I’m so looking forward to our next get together! God, I’m thankful for these girls and the men in our lives!

Sunday morning we missed early service so we headed to our 11am service. Normally, I leave Aiden in the nursery but we took him to the 2-3 yr old room. I was surprised to find that there was only one other child in the room because our big debate over going to the 8:30 service was the lack of other playmates. I really enjoy the messages on Sunday mornings and the couple who watch Aiden absolutely adore him, but I’m wondering if we should check out another church. The church I’m thinking about is Union Chapel; I know they have a mom’s group and I’d really like to meet other moms with kids Aiden’s age. I’ve been praying about it, and still I’m not sure. It wouldn’t hurt to check it out, but at the same time I don’t want to miss out at our current church. God, I’m thankful we can freely worship whereever we choose to attend.

Aiden woke up sick Monday morning and to my dismay it was the “sick” I have been most dreading as a parent. Not exactly the way I hoped to start off the week, but my poor little man 😦 It broke my heart to see him wake up in such a mess. I hurriedly undressed him and  placed him in his high chair while I struggled to clean up the awfulness and the horribleness of it all. Aiden seems to be doing great now and constantly asked for food. Thankfully, my little guy has slept through the night and I’m hoping to find no more “surprises”! God, I’m thankful for my little man, and though I had to clean up the ugly mess I’m thankful that you gave me a strong stomach to do so 🙂

My little Miss has had trouble sleeping at night lately. I’m not sure if she’s going through a growth spurt, or if she’s just trying wear me out 🙂 She’s great throughout the day and takes 3 short naps, but as soon as I put her in her sleepsack for the night her eyes get really wide and she gives me this look as if she’s saying, “look, mom, I’m not sleeping in here alone again tonight. I’m really not all that tired, and you can keep rocking me back to sleep and laying me back in my crib but as soon as you do I’m resorting to my shrieking and crying.” She’s such a happy baby in the mornings when she wakes up…not sure how that happens since she spends such a long time at night refusing to let sleep happen. God, I’m thankful for our little Naomi and the time I’m able to spend with her even if it is in the wee hours of the morning!

Here’s hoping to a wonderful, playful day with my kids. I’m choosing to see the good in all things today and not getting caught up in the dissapointments or failures of the day. I’m giving you, Lord, this day…help me to see this day through your eyes and help me to be grateful for all things!  I realize I’m so blessed to have a husband who allows me to stay at home with our kids. Jon is a 3rd grade teacher…works all day at school, comes home to help me with the kids…and after they’re in bed goes back to working to prepare for the rest of the week at school. I love you and appreciate all that you do, Jon. Thank you for picking up your trash this morning 🙂 You’re the best husband this girl could ever ask for…football fanatic and all 🙂

I Thessalonians 5:18 – In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
